"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

Dedication

This blog is dedicated to my children, their generation, and all those who come after them.

Since the dawn of the new millennium, the human experience has dramatically changed — from the explosion of global connectivity through the internet and social media, to the rise of artificial minds that grow more capable and prolific each day. In such an age, it becomes more important than ever to ask: what does it mean to be human? And how do we as humans differ from some sentience that we may ultimately create?

This blog is my journal of reflection containing philosophical musings, practical notes, and intellectual explorations; fundamentally grounded in a celebration of what I call the universal human. As specialized machines increasingly replace individual human tasks, our greatest strength lies in our ability to adapt and apply knowledge to new endeavors in a flexible and creative way.

My goal in writing this blog is:

  • Understanding of the universe and our place within it
  • Appreciating the depth and richness of human experience
  • Learning and teaching the knowledge (both tangible and theoretical) that not only equips a good life, but imbues it with meaning.

May these writings serve as a map, a mirror, or a spark for your own exploration of the human experience.
